Foundations
Learn to decide whether a trading idea deserves more testing, and to document that decision so someone else can check it.
Planned Enrolment is not open.
Quant Capital Foundations is a planned self-paced, text-first course. It ends in a five-part decision dossier, not an implemented strategy.
$99USD, one-time
Who it is for
Written for
- Learners comfortable with percentages and spreadsheets who want to judge trading ideas rigorously.
- Python users who can run a basic backtest but cannot yet document leakage controls, uncertainty and reasons to reject.
- Technically curious traders deciding whether deeper study is worthwhile.
Not suitable if you want
- Signals, managed trading or immediate income.
- A no-code shortcut to live deployment.
- A recognised professional qualification. A completion record is not one.
You leave with a documented decision
The final artifact is a five-part decision dossier for a scenario you have not seen before: hypothesis, assumptions, net expected-value calculation, rejection reasons and a validation plan for the next experiment.
What is assessed is your ability to explain why a candidate passes specified checks or must be refused. A well-supported rejection is a successful result.

Syllabus
Six modules, about 240 minutes of core study in total. Each follows the same pattern: explain, inspect a worked case, attempt, receive feedback, record a decision. Times are planning estimates; learner pilots will replace them with measured timing.
- F01
Signal and permission
Result: Distinguish an observation, an estimate and an authorization. Exercise: Identify the missing authority in three candidate decisions.
About 35 min. Not yet written. - F02
Outcomes and costs
Result: Calculate net expected value and break-even assumptions. Exercise: Recalculate the same candidate after costs change.
Sample lesson available - F03
Evidence and uncertainty
Result: Separate an estimate from a known probability. Exercise: Explain dependence, uncertainty and a missing-data refusal.
About 45 min. Not yet written. - F04
Trying to invalidate a result
Result: Identify leakage, selection bias and fragile evaluation. Exercise: Repair a flawed train/test plan without using the held-out result.
About 40 min. Not yet written. - F05
Risk and lifecycle
Result: Separate new-risk permission from risk reduction. Exercise: Handle stale data while a position already exists.
About 35 min. Not yet written. - F06
Decision dossier
Result: Produce a traceable go-test-further or reject decision. Exercise: Complete the dossier for an unseen scenario.
About 45 min. Not yet written.
Assessment, as planned
- Six checkpoint sets of four questions, each with explanatory feedback.
- A final assessment of ten scenario questions plus a structured dossier.
- To pass: at least eight correct answers, and all three critical items correct: subtract costs; do not treat positive estimated value as a guarantee; do not let an entry veto block a defined risk-reduction process.
- Retakes use an equivalent scenario and stay available during access.
The result reads Course assessment passed. It is a completion record, not a certification.
Entry diagnostic
Five untimed questions on percentages, average versus outcome, fees, uncertainty and reading a small table. Wrong answers link to a short primer. It helps with placement; it is not a test of investment competence.
